The Happenings on Campus
Thursday, The Hilltop made a phone call to the Continuing Education Department after learning that the program will no longer be offered this fall. From that phone call, we have confirmed that Continuing has been discontinued. This information comes as no surprise as we expect more programs to be cut in light of the university’s fiscal trouble. According to the HUSA progress report available only at thehilltoponline.com (http://bit.ly/kZHfH), the university is expecting a $57 million deficit next year. We expect the cut is a result of a financial committee formed in February of this year to evaluate the programs currently offered by the university, although we have not confirmed that as of now. Schools were required to submit substansive amounts of paperwork last semester to make the case that their programs should continued to be offered. This fight seems to be in line with Ribeau’s vision that Howard should look at what we do well and focus our resources to the advancement of those programs. We are working to compile a list of programs that have been cut and will make it available on thehilltoponline.com as soon as information becomes available.
